The Department of Electrical Engineering offers programmes of graduate

specifically dedicated to extensive research, and for the support of
graduate students, exist in the areas of biomedical engineering,
communication systems, computational analysis and design for

The M.Eng. program is designed for part-time study by practicing engineers
and is based on a set of courses, normally offered in the evenings, plus a
project performed in industry. The principal areas of study offered in the
M.Eng. program are electronics, communications and signal processing. The
M.A.Sc., on the other hand, is a full-time program in which primary
emphasis is on the thesis, rather than course work. It is more exploratory
than the M.Eng., and hence the areas of study cover a greater range.

The department does research ina wide range of areas, from the very large
scale (electric power systems) to the very small (microelectronics), from
mechanical systems (robotics) to human systems (biomedical), to the way
information can be transmitted (communications); there is work on
large-scale industrial production (systems and control) and very high
frequency propagation (applied electromagnetics). Much of this activity
involves collaboration with industrial partners, and many students have
opportunities for industrial interaction during their graduate work. We
also collaborate with academic and government labs in Canada and throughout
the world.

taught MSc programme in Radio Communications and High Frequency Engineering
, which consists of eight taught modules and a pilot study. The pilot study
continues as an individual project carried out full-time during the summer
vacation. The Department has very strong research groups in the areas of
communication systems and microwave and terahertz technology. Our MSc
programme, as well as providing self-contained advanced programmes of
study, is an ideal preparation for those contemplating continuing with
