Emphasis is on educating students to solve problems through the scientific methods of research. Acquiring specific information
in a narrow specialty is secondary compared to a student's ability to approach and solve complex problems involving the
coupling of several fields. Chemical engineering is a dynamic discipline, continually moving into new areas of technology.

The Chemical Engineering Department presently has 24 full-time faculty. In addition, we profit from interactions with part-time
faculty associates from European universities and from several local industries. Our current graduate student population consists
of about 100 full-time students plus some part-time and extension students from local industry. The low student-faculty ratio in
the department, only about 4:1, permits a very close interaction between students and faculty -- a critical component of the
graduate experience at Delaware. Over the years, our graduates have consistently obtained employment in outstanding
academic and industrial institutions.
