BOTH the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and Lancaster received five-star gradings for research and achieved excellent teaching. 
UMIST tops the table on the strength of its higher entry criteria. 

Warwick and LSE also have top-trated teaching departments, coupled with national excellence in research by a high proportion of staff. 

The 19 excellent centres for teaching include the new universities of De Montfort, Kingston, Northumbria, Nottingham Trent and West of England. 

London Business School also received a five-star research rating but it does not appear in the table because it does not teach undergraduates.
