签证须知



签证签证是外国政府派驻我国的机构所发给的，它是在护照里的一种戳记
，允许签证持有人在所列的条件下进入该国。到美国的留学生多持 F-1
（学生签证）或J-1（交换学生）签证，一般来说F-1较常见。通常留学
生会拿到五年多次入境美国（multiple entery）的学生签证，意即在五年
之内可多次进入美国。

而入境时，移民官会根据你的I-20上所载之时间（The normal length of 
stay），加注你实际上可停留在美的时间 (duration of stay) ，签证持有
人不可停留超过此期限。

如何到美国在台协会(AIT) 办签证及准备面谈？

申请美国学生签证所需文件:

（一）一年以上效期的护照（二）填好的 TSS-107申请表(此表及说明
书可美国在台协会、学术流基金会、或旅行社索取，申请表上贴二寸光
面脱帽正面半身三个月内拍摄的近照。（三）入学许可:I-20 或 IAP-66
（四）在美求学期间的财力证明（五）申请费台币（六）中、英文成绩单
（七）托福成绩单（八）全户户囗誊本一份


签证常用问题

见面说：“Hi, Nice to meet you!”，听不懂说：“Pardon?”

5.Why do you choose XXXX not other one?

 very good CS department and its academic atmosphere is excellent.

6.Who will pay you on your study?
The Computer Science Department of XXXX offer me a Graduate
 Assistantship.

7.Why UA offer you a graduate assistantship?
It's because of my good academic record.

8. Why do you want to study in US?/ Why don't you want to get your Ph.D.
in China?/Why do you want to go USA for Ph.D. degree?
a)The technology of CS in USA is much more advanced than that in 
China,and a USA degree is better for my latter career in China.
b)American universities have better education facilities, better library
resource and more qualified faculty.

9. Why do you want to get the Ph.D. degree?/How do you think the Ph.D.
degree will benefit your future career in China?
I will learn more advanced technology and knowledge in USA, and it will
benefit my later career in China.

10.What's yours major? What do you study in your undergraduate major?

11.Why do you choose XXXX as yours major?
a)My specialty in graduate study is XXXX. I am very interested in it and 
Want to further my study in USA. b) Because when I were a child I like to

二、签证必备材料
1. 护照（签名）

2. 签证申请表F-156，家庭成员表。
注意事项：#备好两张二寸护照照片，事先裁剪成规定的37mmX37mm，
即按二寸照片的宽度剪成正方形。
#家庭成员表正反面都填。我忘了填一面，幸好没被发现。
#填好后，按虚线撕开，中文部分自己保留，可以不填。

3. admission letter, signed I-20 form(all page),
official T&G scores注意事项：建议按顺序排好，用回形针别起来。

4. 成绩单，学位学历证明(如果有的话)。
注意事项：不必放在官方封口的信封里。签证官草草看一下还给你。

5. 钱注意事项：目前的签证费是405RMB，一次交清。

6. 涂改液，笔，固体胶

三、填表注意事项
1. 最好在去上海前先搞到一份拷贝填好，到时照抄。
2. 姓名的电报码见6264号文章.
3. 某几项的填法
13) color of hair: Black
14) color of eyes: Brown
15) complexion: Yellow
17) Marks of Identification: None
22) No
31) 全No
34) 全No

美国大使馆非移民签证新程序
(自1998.4.6起实行) 
1.在指定的中信银行分支机构缴纳405元申请费(在此地领OF-156表)
离中关村最近的分支机构大概是海淀区白石桥路 34 号)
 2.在1号窗口出具中信银行收据和OF-156表及其他材料
 3.工作人员发号码，申请者在指定的时间等候面谈(P.S. 上午700~1100到的可获得
一个时间和号码容许当天申请签证) 4.在指定的面谈时间在2号窗口排队检查材料 5.在3号窗口有签证官等候，需要面谈时会通知你 6.被批准者到接待室交费窗口缴纳签证费 7.大部分被批准者在次日下午1500后领取签证

关于签证

以下是个人的以点体会，仅供参考：
1. If you want to go out early, you have to go there early.
I went there at 4:30 and got number 100.
2. Don't be afraid of the questions. 
The office always asks Short sentence. You can hear clearly.
3. Take some food as breakfast. Take some water.
4. Take some journals or magazines.

取签证时的注意事项

要取签证的各位大虾请注意

1 取签证时带上身分证，黄条和170元，不要带提包可以带文件夹。
否则门卫会拒你于大门外。
2 取签证一般大约在1点开始排队登记，3点开始放人进使馆。
3 因现在人多，有可能签证还没作好，须在使馆里头耐心等待，一般在
当天下午均能取到。
4 如果使馆对你的材料有疑问?会通知你某个时间再去一次?
5 排队时，一般有一个AT&T的小姐散发《赴美指南》，但数量有限，
须动作迅速才能拿到。

some advices

After successfuly going through the interview of Americanconsulators, you
 must return to get your Visa, passport and I-20 atthat afternoon. When you
 waits in line for opening of that blackdoor. There will be some young gilrs
 who distributed some brochuresabout AT&T. If you in line, they will give 
you a set ot it. Do notdiscard that brochure, just throw it in your bag. After
 you return USTC,fill in the form at the end of that pamphlet and mail it as
 the addresspresented. Then you will receive a book about USA living. 
Moreover,a gift calling card from At&T which will let you call back China 
6minutes free after you arriving in USA, or 25 minutes for domesticcall. 
So pick it up, the more, the better. And do not use AT&Tas your
 long-distance phone company here because it is so expensive.

为什么签证的有效期仅为6个月？

: 为什么签证的有效期仅为6个月？而且2 Entries, 什么意思？
: 我要4年时间才能拿到学位，6个月怎么够呢？

: 六个月内两次入境，就是说你可以在六个月内回来一次，然后再去: 
米国而不用再签，六个月是入境有效时间，你在美国停留的时间，: 
可能是入境后，移民局确定吧。

在美国的停留时间会在入关时由INS（移民局〔填在你的I－94上，学生
都是D、S (depend on study).



签证过程

1. 到中信实业银行(最近的在魏公村)交405圆签证费,并领F-156表,
签证费凭条有效一年,不需带任何证件,除了钱.2. 到美使馆门口排队,7:20
开始在1号窗口发当天签证号,一般300号以前可上午
签上,否则下午1:00开始.3. 警卫叫号,先在2号或3号窗口预审材料,也有在
这时通过签证的.4. 进使馆,先进行安全检查,可带包,但不能有手机和BP
.5. 往里走,进签证厅,先在0号窗口交护照,I20,和签证费凭条,换一个有颜
色的塑料板6. 在有相应颜色塑料板的窗口排队,共有5个签证窗口.7. 听
签证官叫你的名字,上前答话,通过或据签.8. 通过到6号窗口换取签证的
条,第二天下午取签证.some advice on Visa

Last week, our TSE teacher, Brian, who had worked in U.S.Embassy, 
gave us some advice on applying for visa. I thinkthis advice may be of 
some help to you.

First, American officials have been told lies all day. So they always think
 what you say is totally a lie unless you can provide some written proof. 

Second, as we all know, the most important thing for a visa isfull financial
 support form a U.S. source. But if you are not luckyenough, you should
 provide every possible financial proof you can get, say a big sum of money
 in US or China bank or a lot of realestate belonging to you. The American 
never check the written proofsimply because they do not have so much time. 

Last but not the least, the American do not like Chinese to move totheir
 country. So you should provide them with written proof that youhave a very
 very desirable future back in China. For example, You willget a CEO in a 
famous firm or a professor in Tsinghua or PKU. How to get Visa with full 
finacial aid.

. Time you'd better arrive at the embassy.
6am -- 7am

There are more than 200 people can apply for visa in one day.If you arrive 
at 7am, you will be about No.120, and you can get the visa at about 11am.
 Do not go there too early. I do not think it is good to get there at 2am.

. Procedures

Go to the embassy. Buy a number from two old man. (need 1 yuan, you 
only need to sign your name on a card) Waiting ( At this time you can go
 for you passport if you do not have it)
Go into the embassy ( if you number is about 110-120, you will go into 
the embassy at about 10am)
Go to the Visa office.

In the office:
Go to the No.0 window (first window on you left) 
hand in the visa application form and family number sheet and passport)
Change to the next window (No.1) hand in the money(170 yuan or 20 USD)
 and they will return the materials you
hand in on the first window)
Go to the window of red card (window for those who apply for visa the first
 time)
Waiting.
You get it.
