The official smiled and said :" hi ! How are you ?"
Then I smiled and said " fine, thank you! "
The official looked at my document , smiled and said :
"Duke University! Good!~~~"
I smiled.
The official smiled and asked :"Have you graduated?"
I smiled and said :"Yeah."
The official smiled and asked :"When?"
I smiled and said "July, this summer."
The official smiled and said :"so you haven't graduated!"
I smiled and said :"yeah."
The official smiled and said :"Okay. Good Luck!"
I smiled and said "Hehe... Thank you!"

I apply for F-Yi:)( I made a mistake at that time)Because I did not get full
support from the university.

I wish to broaden my knowledge in my professional field and to strenthen my
research abbility.

今天我和 atm 去签证, 早上 4:30 到大使馆排队, 结果排了 32 和 33 名.
签证官有三人, 一个年长的男的, 一个年轻的男的, 和一个漂亮的小姐. 那个
年老的签证官似乎特别和蔼可亲, 在他那签一般会获通过. 而那位领事小姐工
作效率最低, 她签一个, 别人可签两三个.
轮到我时, 只见领事小姐微笑向我招手, 我急忙快步走上, 递上我的材料. 她
一边翻着材料, 一边随意问着问题.
1) What are you going to do in the United States?
2) To which university?
3) When did you get your bachelor degree?
4) Have you got your Master degree and when?
5) What's your major?
6) How long will you stay in the United States?
7) What will you plan to do after graduation?
一下问了七个问题, 已超出我的想象, 还好我比较流利地答了出来, 看着她在
我的 I20 上写着什么, 心里窃喜, 终于通过了.
忽然她抬头问了第八个问题,
8) Why will you want to get the PhD degree in Computer Science?
开始我没听清, 让她 pardon 了一次. 然后我将美国的Computer Science 大
大赞扬一番, 表明我学习的渴望. 没想到领事小姐不满意, 让我正面和更具体
地回答. 我不明所以, 只有又添油加醋说了一番. 她还认为不对, 换了角度提
出问题.
How do you think the PhD degree will benefit your future career
in China?
我当时有些慌张, 只有把原来的答案以另一方式再说一遍. 她听了后, 说了句
特别无情的话:
You can't answer such a simple question correctly, how can you
study in the United Stated? ( 我记不太清, 大意如此)
我无言以对, 只有将自己的英文表达能力自我批评一番, 并表示今后要努力提高.
心里却暗想, 今天一定被 refuse 了.
这时旁边的男领事来找女领事聊天, 我隔着玻璃窗看着他们嘴一张一合, 虽然只
有一两分钟, 却仿佛过了十几分钟.
终于, 女领事回头对我说:
Please go to Window 6 and wait.
哇! 死里逃生的感觉!
PS: 回来我仔细想了一下, 第八个问题我的错误在于, 我回答的是为什么要在
美国学 Computer Science, 而她问的是为什么要拿 PhD Degree.
诸位即将去签证的同志, 在回答问题时一定要看清题意, 以免陷入我今天
的危险境地.

我有一友，得米国之RA，但今日不幸被拒。
那位洋娃娃似的 officer 认为他没有正确表达出自己的想法，故无情拒之。
其中的一个问题是：
Why do you want to go to USA for the doctorate degree?
如前版所述，这是一个很刁钻的问题。遗憾的是我这位老兄没有读过相关的
文章，唉！！
故此Post该文，并请教网上诸友------如何申诉，如何把握时机。

小弟我今天早上2:30就起来往秀水街奔去.4:20就到了.
居然拿到了15号. 不过让我最恐怖的是签证官(那位年轻
的小伙子)说话的速度快得让我发呆. 好在小弟我还没晕倒,
居然让我给蒙出来了.
Where will you go to study? -- ... university
What are you studying now?
-- Tsinghua University. (In fact, I gave error answer,
I should say: EE. 给 我吓了一跳)
Which university are you in? -- Tsinghua University.
然后他一本正经地察看了小弟的成绩单, 觉得还算可以, 于是说
出了我朝思暮想的话: wait at window 6.
终于过了这一关.

Reason 1: A ph.D. degree is better for my later career in China, especially
planning to be a professor in university.
Reason 2: The university I want to go has the best environment and faculty
in my intended area.

我19日去签证的，那天大雨滂沱。。。。。。
那天有三个签证官，一个老头，两个小姐。短头发的非常好说话，凡是全奖只问一句话：
“Which university?", 长发长脸的签一个要10分钟，特慌人。
我是那个老头签的，问了我不少问题：
1。Is it you? (point the photo on the form and ask me)
Yeah. It's me.
2. How old are you?
..
3. You look so young.
Yes.
4. Computer Science?
Yes, Computer and Information Science
5. Have you any scholarship?
Yes, I got GRA from ... University.
6. Good, any relative in the united states? Parents?
No. My wife.
7. Study?
yes, she is studying.
8. In your university?
No, she is studying in ... university.
9. Any child?
No, no child.
10. Anybody else in the United States?
Nobody else.
11. (smile), ok, go to window six.
Thanx.
仔细听他的话做正面回答即可。若听不懂不要瞎猜，Pardon?就行了。 有一个Pardon了
五把也没事。那天在我之前十来个全奖没有拒的。

我递上材料,对方(所谓的金发魔女喔),先把别的放一边,
看I-20,立刻笑容满面:
"Duke?" (很大的一个升调)
我赶紧 "Yeah"
"Where are you studying now?"
"Tsinghua"
"Have you graduated?"
"No, but I will graduate i...." ('in' 还没说玩)
"July!"(先降调,再升调,同时可爱的小姐笑得更灿烂了)"Ok."(同时把T,G还给了我.)
我拿了就奔 Window 6 了, 当然"Thank"没忘了说.
就这样完了,前后没几秒, 她始终是一副笑脸,
所以大家不要怕喔.
今天早上细雨蒙蒙, 但是人很多, 有300来个,
开始由于有外交部什么的, 然后一个黑人Lady跟他们吵,
耽误了不少时间, 后来快了.
在我前面的二,三十个我认为是学生的基本上都签了,
我在里面只看到一,两个被拒. 差别只是interview的时间长短而已.
跟最近的谣言不符啊.
不行了,肚子锇的受不了了. 大家不要犹豫,能去签的就去吧.

今天去签证，到我的时候两位签证官小姐都处理完了上一位，同时曲手指做勾引状，我义
无反顾直奔那位短发，笑容如天使，戴眼镜的签证官。她看了看我的I-20，然后开始盖一
堆章，然后.....就往外给我了，连“Oh, UIUC?"一类的话都没说，然而在我欣喜地去接时
，她开口了:"What are you planning to do after you get your Ph.D's degree?".
也许是太高兴了，本来准备的词全忘了，我脱口而出:"I will continue to pursue a
higher educational degree!"。话一出口，天使就乐不可支:"So you will spend all
your life studying?"。我硬着头皮说:"Yes!"。她笑得花枝招展，然后说:"Please
wait at window 6."
上午的情况是：探亲=拒签，贸易=拒签，留学+全奖=签，留学+半奖=？
UIUC的战友们，快去！

嗨，各位同道
上周四，我在签证处签证，遇到的正是那位金发魔女， 当她向我招手时，我快步走了
上去，递上材料：
我： Hi, How are you!
金： Fine, Thanks, and you!
我： Fine, thank you!
金： 嘴里不知嘟哝了些什么， 我一句没听懂，不知该如何回答。
她看我这样，便说：Don't be nervous, Answer my question.
接着，
金： Which university will you study in?
我： The university of ...
金： Why do you go to this university?
我： pursue Ph.D.
金： I know you will pursue your Ph.D., But I ask why do you select this
university,not other universities.
我： Because my future adviser is famous in the field I interest in.
金： Ok, please wait at window six.
我长出了一口气！

今日去美国使馆签证，苦等几小时，终于轮到我了。是一个深色头发的小伙子。
问：你去哪所学校。
答：XXX UNIVERSITY

答：PHD
问：WHERE ARE YOU NOW？
答：TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY
问：WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE？
答：I WILL GRADUATE NEXT WEEK。
