My wife and I got our F1/F2 visa together in early June
in Shen Yang. I think the following might be helpful for
some friends who want to apply F2 visa. Before my wife
got her F2 visa, I always came to Tsinghua BBS to read
articles about visa application. I got much understandings
for it here. Special thanks to toughguy! (a specialist, :))
I came abroad last year and went back to China this summer
to get married. I decided to apply for visa together with
my wife, in case the consulate officer has questions about
financial support and any other thing my wife can't
explain clearly. I was right.
We went to Shen Yang to apply for visa in early June,
after we got married and she got her passport. The officer
(an old American woman) didn't believe we had enough money
to live a life here. I told her I lived off-campus, sharing
a 3 bed-room with two other people, with a rent of $290 in
the past year. After thinking about it for a while, she nodded.
But when she asked us for proof of our time-lasting
relationship, all we could provide were a few photoes.
That wasn't enough. Luckily,
she didn't refuse our visa application, but give us a
chance to get additional material. We had to go back
home and go to consulate again. We got our visa without
interviewing with the officer when we went there the second
time. A secratory returned our material and told us that
we got our visa.
So when you go to apply for F2 visa, bring letters, cards
(birthday cards, new year's card, ets.),
international phone call bills, photoes (not only wedding
photoes, but also photoes before you got married, take more
photoes with your bf/gf. ha!). If possible, print out part
of your email and bring them with you. Anything, which can
prove your relationship to be lasting, can be included.
My passport was issued in Beijing. As some people said, I
should apply visa in Beijing. But since my wife appled for
visa in Shen Yang, I applied mine in Shen Yang too. No problem
with this.
Finally, here is the money on my I-20 form. (8b-7a is about
$15,500. I think 8b-7a > $15,000 is a critical line for F2)
7a: 21,840
7b: 11,566
7c: 6,847
8a: 5,500
8b: 37,435
Wish all of you got your visa successfully. Good luck.
ps. Sorry for using English, but my Chinese system doesn't
work now.
