I had been preparing for entry to the US on an F-2 visa for long until Jan, 
2003. Things changed a lot at that time so I am able to apply for another visa 
type. 
I think the point of F-2 is to change the status and to start a new, 
meaningful
life as soon as possible after one's arrival. Otherwise, being an F-2, one 
may be bored to death. 
However, one need not feel ashamed of being an F-2,for being together with 
one's 
best half is always something worth such a compromise. Others' unfriendly 
words mean nothing if one does not care.
